The International Symposium on Medical Information and Communication Technology is in its Fourth year. After the inagural in Yokohama, Japan, the ISMICT moved to Oulu, Finland. The next top was Montreal in Canada, and most recently it was held in Taipei. Below you will find brief summaries of the most recent two events.

Montreal

In Montreal, the conference theme was emerging wireless information technologies & applications for healthcare, was an international inter-disciplinary effort towards better understanding and predicting how new communication technologies will impact medical practices. ISMICT2009 continued and extended the activities that have stemmed from previous meetings held in Japan and Finland.

The event included speaches from some of the top minds in the field. Ryuji Kohno (currently a Professor of the Division of Physics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Director of Center on Medical Information and Communication Technology, in Yokohama National University) Spoke about the importance of advanced info-communication technology (ICT) and how it can create an innovative interdisciplinary field between medicine and engineering in the future.

Another highlight was the tutorial sessions given by C. Peter Waegemann, the Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Records Institute. The tutorials examined the progress in the HIT field and analyze why mHealth is the most likely solution to interoperability, the implementation of electronic medical record systems, and eHealth.

The conference theme of ISMICT2010 in Taipei, Taiwan was Intelligent Mobile Computing for Better Medical Services. It was another successful international inter-disciplinary effort towards common platforms between medical and engineering teams to achive better understanding. As well as how to explore how new information communication technologies (ICT) will have a great impact on medical practice in our daily life.

This years event was chaired by Profesor Chung-Yu (Peter) Wu, President, National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan, Dr. Chang-Hai Tsai, Chairman of the Board, China Medical University Hospital, Taiwan and Profesor Jong-Tsun Huang, President, China Medical University, Taiwan.
